The Treats of Fall

It was a perfect day last Saturday at The Davidson Fall Arts Festival in Davidson, NC. We had great weather and the people that stopped by our booth were the nicest of anybody I’ve ever met. I can’t thank the people of Davidson enough for all the well-wishes for Java Sweets and a special thank you goes out to those who bought a tin of our cookies. Seems like every flavor was a hit with someone and we sold out of almost everything we took. I couldn’t have asked for a better day!

Fall is such a fun time of year. As the weather cools off and it starts to get dark sooner, we will begin to build bonfires and that makes everyone think of s’mores! Any of our cookies would make a great substitute for the standard graham crackers to take your s’mores to the next level. However, if you want to skip the bonfire, you can make a s’more tart indoors using your microwave and oven. I chose to use the Dark Chocolate Espresso Cookies for mine.

First, I crushed about 10 or 12 cookies in my food processor, mixed the crumbs with 2 tablespoons of butter, pressed them into my 8” springform pan, and baked them at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Then I let the crust cool completely, placed on a baking sheet, spread with marshmallow fluff, and placed under a broiler for about 10 more minutes. When it was browned to taste, I took it out and drizzled with melted chocolate. It was that easy! It’s a grown-up smore that didn’t last long at my house.

 

 

So as the leaves turn their pretty colors and create a beautiful picture for us to look at this fall, let’s remember to stop and take time to enjoy the scenery and eat a cookie!
